Being part of a ‘turning point’ at West Coast is exciting Bo Allan as the prized draftee gets stuck into life as an Eagle.
Allan, the club’s first pick at last week’s national draft at No.16 overall, joined his 2024 cohort at training on Monday for their debut session at Mineral Resources Park.
The Peel Thunder product had the experience of playing in a senior WAFL premiership last season to prepare for the AFL environment.
But the intensity of pre-season training at the elite level was still noticeable.
“On the track, definitely the intensity was one (thing) that stood out and the camaraderie of the group was great,” Allan said.
“All the boys have been great.
“Obviously (WAFL finals is) a step up in intensity and the bigger bodies as well, so it’s put me in good stead for what is to come now.”
Allan played in defence at Peel and is likely to continue there for the Eagles, at least initially.
“Long-term I’d like to move into the midfield and use my attributes there, but for now versatility is one of my strengths and I’m happy to put my best foot forward wherever I’m needed on the field,” Allan said.
“As of now I think (I’ll play) defence and then see where I can develop from then on in.”
Highly-regarded for his professionalism and leadership attributes, Allan was looking forward to using all the resources available to AFL players as he embarks on his first steps in the big time.
He is the Eagles’ fourth first-round pick from the past three years and is part of an exciting group set to drive the club forward in coming seasons.
“Really looking forward to it. I think it’s a great opportunity not only for the club but for me as well,” Allan said.
“To be part of a turning point at the club is going to be really good.”
