1. Reward for effort was lacking

The Eagles had multiple chances on Saturday to close Fremantle’s lead, but the effort around the ground went unrewarded with some inaccuracy in front of goals. West Coast finished the game with just one goal and six points, and will no doubt spend some extra time on goal-kicking this week ahead of Saturday’s clash with Geelong.

2. Lewis leads the way

Bella Lewis led from the front on Saturday, managing a game-high and equal-career-high 26 disposals, four marks, five tackles, a game-high seven clearances and 509 metres gained. Lewis continues to be a reliable and consistent contributor in the West Coast engine room and sets the standards for her developing teammates.

3. Drennan does it again

Experienced midfielder Ali Drennan had another impressive outing in her first RAC Derby, finishing with 20 touches, an equal-game-high 12 tackles and six clearances. The 33-year-old has been an absolute workhorse since her arrival in the off-season, and she continues to push herself from week to week.

4. Putting on a show

Fans flocked to the seventh RAC Derby on Saturday, with over 6000 supporters showing up at Leederville Oval. It was an amazing atmosphere, and a boost for the players to see so much love in the grandstands on the grass around the ground.

5. Full steam ahead

This weekend the Eagles take on Geelong at Mineral Resources Park and will be looking to get back on the winners list as the conclusion of the regular season approaches. With West Coast and Geelong currently sitting 11th and 12th on the ladder, Saturday’s clash is shaping up to be beauty, and the Eagles will need to add another win to their tally to keep their 2024 finals chances alive.
