1. Learn from it

Saturday’s loss was the Eagles’ most disappointing result this season. The team will take a lot of learnings away from the game and how the Hawks went about their business, and will need to put in some work this week ahead of Saturday’s RAC Derby at Leederville Oval. The Hawks showed the Eagles a blueprint of how a team can improve quickly, and that’s what West Coast will look to replicate.

2. Thomas the tank engine

Star defender Charlie Thomas and her fellow backliners had a tough day out on Saturday with Hawthorn's constant onslaught inside forward 50. Thomas worked hard and did what she could to try and stop the Hawks' flow, managing a game-high 26 disposals and 680 metres gained.

3. Play to the conditions

Kinetic Stadium is renowned for its windy and cold conditions, with the breeze able to have a real impact on the outcome of a game. Hawks are familiar with these surroundings and played accordingly, while the Eagles were unable to capitalise when they had the breeze behind them, making it tough to swing any momentum in their favour throughout the match.

4. Ever-reliable Roberts

While it was a relatively quiet day out by typical Ella Roberts standards, the talented teenager still strived to impact around the ground in trying circumstances. The 19-year-old mid-forward finished with 17 disposals, two marks, five tackles and five clearances.

5. Chins up

The Eagles showed spirit in the first term, but looked to drop their heads a little when Hawthorn really started piling on the pressure. This young and developing side has experienced the Eagles’ most successful season to date, and the connection within the group has always added another layer to the positive and upbeat team environment. The group need to keep their chins up, bounce off each other and focus on what comes next – the famed rivalry of the RAC Derby.
