Last time we met: West Coast 6.5 (41) def by Hawthorn 6.8 (44) at Frankston Oval, round six, season seven.

It was a heartbreaking loss for the West Coast Eagles, falling by just three points in a thriller in Frankston. The Eagles started hot, their run and stun game stunning Hawthorn in the opening term, capitalising on the stiff breeze. Skipper Emma Swanson starred, managing an equal-career-high 28 touches, five marks, four tackles and a goal. Bella Lewis also played a crucial role, finishing with 24 disposals, 10 tackles and goal. Despite the Eagles’ best efforts, the Hawks were able to steal back momentum when kicking with the wind, and managed to hold on to the lead until the final siren.

What it means for the Eagles: After a disappointing loss to Port Adelaide at Mineral Resources Park last weekend, the Eagles will be desperate to bounce back against the Hawks and get back on the winners’ list. This developing Eagles team are in the midst of their most successful season to date, and continue to show progress from week to week. Securing another road win in the back half of the season will be a huge boost, and will bolster their chances of playing finals for the first time in the club’s history. The Eagles will also proudly don their Pride jumper, celebrating Pride Round and the inclusiveness and diversity within the sport.

The stat: In the six seasons that West Coast has been in the competition, they have only played the Hawks once, in season seven.

Oppo in focus: Eliza West

Premiership player Eliza West has been in dangerous form this season and the Eagles will attempt to minimise her impact in the game. West comes into this matchup following an impressive performance in the Hawk’s win over the Suns last weekend, finishing with 23 touches, nine tackles, eight clearances and a goal.

It’s a big week for: Jess Hosking

Experience recruit Jess Hosking will make her return this week, following multiple weeks on the sidelines with a quad injury. The exciting forward has made an incredible impact on the team since her arrival, including being voted into the leadership group, and her teammates will be thrilled to have her back on the park with them on Saturday.

Big call: Jess Hosking will pick up where she left off in front of goal, kicking two majors against the Hawks.
