New recruit Roxy Roux is set to spend an extended period of time on the sidelines after breaking a bone in her hand.
The injury happened when Roux smothered a ball in the final pre-season training session before the team’s opening game against Richmond.
“Roxy unfortunately has broken a bone in her hand in Wednesday’s training last week,” AFLW Head of High Performance Wes Salisbury said.
“She’s had that splinted up but will be out for 3-4 weeks.”
Skipper Emma Swanson pulled up sore last week, while co-vice-captain Bella Lewis was helped from the ground in the final term of Friday’s game with a knee injury.
“Swanny missed week one with groin soreness,” Salisbury said.
“After a little de-load, she will look to get back onto the track this week and will be a test for selection.
“Bella came off during the fourth quarter of Friday’s game after a heavy tackle.
“She’s pulled up fairly well and MRI results cleared her of any serious damage so she will be a test throughout the week.”
Emily Elkington and Sophie McDonald both sustained head knocks in the weeks leading up the season commencing and are continuing through concussion protocols.
“Emily and Sophie are both still working through concussion protocols after getting head knocks in the pre-season games,” Salisbury said.
“Unfortunately, they will both be unavailable this week."
