It was a disappointing day out for the WAFL Eagles at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday, falling to Perth by 48 points.

Senior coach Kyal Horsley said the performance was not up to standard to be competitive in this league.

“The weekend’s game was disappointing and not up to the standards that the group has set over the last month,” Horsley said.

“We were outplayed in all areas of the game by Perth and went away from the little things required from each player for the team to be in a position to compete at this level.

“It was a strong reminder to the group and one they are keen to redeem.”

Top Performers

Rhett Bazzo

Stood up down back under an oversupply of football, his ability to win or half the contest all game kept us in the game for as long as he could.

Jai Culley

He was the best of our inside mids and kept trying to influence the game and lift his teammates.

Archer Reid

He was a real threat up forward but with the limited supply, we moved him back with a development focus and he performed well down back in the second half.

AFL Listed Players

Campbell Chesser

Showed some growth in the new role as an inside mid and is starting to see some results from all the extras he’s been putting in at training.

Jamaine Jones

Like most, he struggled to impact the game in the first half but moved into the midfield in the second half and his pressure and impact was noticeable at stoppage.

Harry Barnett

He found it hard to get into the game as a key forward, but had good influence with very limited time in the ruck with nine hit outs and a clearance.

Loch Rawlinson

It was a hard game to have an impact in his role as a forward but he took his opportunity when it presented and worked hard for the team.

Jordyn Baker

Defended well under trying circumstances and kept working for the team when we had the ball.

Coen Livingstone

While he didn’t get the reward on the stats sheet as he did last week, his running patterns and work ethic up forward was noticeable both when we had the ball and when we were defending.

Matthew Flynn

He didn’t have his normal influence on the game but had an enthralling battle with Schlensog, he didn’t take a backward step and tried to lead others in what was a tough game for the group.
