Co-captain Liam Duggan and star defender Jeremy McGovern are set to bolster West Coast’s line-up for Friday night’s home clash with Gold Coast.

But unfortunately the Eagles have several injury concerns following the RAC Derby, with full-back Tom Barrass joining Luke Edwards in concussion protocols, while Zane Trew (neck) is listed as a test for the Suns clash.

Duggan has missed the past two matches in the concussion protocols but is ready to return, while McGovern (ribs) and Alex Witherden (hip) are both likely to be available.

“Liam will be back playing this week. We took an extra week with his concussion so he’s good to go, he’s passed all the tests,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness said.

“’Gov’ didn’t get up for last week unfortunately. He’ll train again on Wednesday and assuming he gets through training on Wednesday he’ll play.

“He’s still got a couple of boxes to tick but we’re hopeful he’ll get up this weekend.

“’Witho’ had some hip soreness at the back end of the week. Again, just a bit too sore to play, but he’ll get through training this week hopefully and play again as well."

Trew suffered a knock in the opening seconds of the RAC Derby and was substituted shortly after.

“’Trewy’ at the very first bounce unfortunately got a knock to his neck. He didn’t have any concussion signs so that’s really good news, so it was more the neck we were worried about,” Inness said.

“The docs took a conservative approach as you do with neck injuries and ruled him out of the game.

“He’s had the scans, there’s no structural damage, so we’re hopeful he’ll be out there on the track on Wednesday but he’s a test for this week.”

McGovern’s comeback would be timely with Barrass experiencing delayed concussion symptoms, while Edwards sustained a knock late in the Fremantle clash.

“Tom had a bit of delayed concussion off the back of the game, so unfortunately he’s in concussion protocols so won’t play this week,” Inness said.

“Luke in the last quarter got a head knock, so he’s in concussion protocols. He’s had multiple this year, so that means we’ll be really conservative with him and we’ll put a timeframe with him in the next couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile, Callum Jamieson’s season is over, with the versatile tall undergoing knee and ankle surgery on Tuesday.

“’Jamo’ he’s missed a fair chunk of football in the back end. He’s had knee issues and also a grumbly ankle,” Inness said.

“(He will) go see a surgeon (on Tuesday) and get both his knee and his ankle operated on, so he won’t play again this year.”
