West Coast co-captain Liam Duggan will be an Eagle for life after extending his contract for four more years.
Since being drafted from Bacchus Marsh in Victoria with pick No.11 in 2014, Duggan’s loyalty to West Coast has been unwavering.
A 2018 premiership player and life member, the 27-year-old has re-signed to remain in blue and gold until at least the end of 2028.
“It’s just been pretty much a lifelong goal really to be a one-club player and pay back some of the loyalty the club has shown in me and that was a big part of the decision,” Duggan said.
“I wasn’t ever going anywhere.”
Duggan was part of a squad that experienced six-straight finals campaigns under Adam Simpson from 2015-20, and he is determined to help lead West Coast back towards September contention.
“I just want to be part of building this club back up to some of the success that I’ve experienced in my early days and really excited to be part of that with our younger group,” Duggan said.
“Being in a position of leadership now I’m able to grab hold of that steering wheel and help steer it.
“That excites me and obviously with Simmo moving on there’s a new chapter in that space as well that we’ve got to look forward to.
“Whatever happens there it will be exciting, but just want to be part of this group.”
Elevated to sharing leadership duties with Oscar Allen this season, Duggan’s reliability, toughness and professionalism has continued to set an elite standard for his teammates.
“Liam has been one of our most consistent performers for a number of years now, leading through his actions on gameday but also as a true professional off the field,” General Manager Football Gavin Bell said.
“He is a terrific example for our young group, connects with our senior and emerging players, and has been an outstanding ambassador for our club since the day he moved west.
“We are thrilled he has committed to remaining an Eagle for the rest of his playing career and look forward to him continuing to drive our squad to get better.”
