Co-captain Oscar Allen is out. Rebounding defender Jamaine Jones is in.
While that is clearly not a case of like-for-like, that is the only confirmed change in the West Coast Eagles line-up for their first game at Optus Stadium against the GWS Giants on Sunday.
Allen complained of knee soreness in the aftermath of the round one loss to Port Adelaide last Sunday and will subsequently miss an extended period of time. The key forward has been assessing the options and the extent of the issue in the last few days.
There is likely to be further change. Veteran Andrew Gaff was informed early in the week that he would not be playing on Sunday but he was named on the extended interchange bench.
Those players are named in numerical order which puts him first in the queue of eight players, but he sits a little further down the order.
Also on that extended bench, which will be trimmed tomorrow, are defenders Jayden Hunt and Alex Witherden, wingman Campbell Chesser, experienced forward Jack Darling, young ruckman Harry Barnett, half-forward Ryan Maric and utility player Tyrell Dewar.
The club’s match committee will sleep on the final composition of the team before final submission of the starting 23 early tomorrow afternoon.
