Inaugural West Coast Eagles skipper Emma Swanson will remain in the blue and gold until at least the end of 2027, signing a three-year contract extension with the club.
Swanson is coming off an impressive 2023 season, her eighth season in the competition, which saw her average 22.1 touches per game, more than her Club Champion-winning total of 21.5 in season seven, and just 0.01 less than her career-best.
The 28-year-old is an inspiration for her young and developing teammates, consistently leading by example on and off the field, performing at an incredibly high-level week in and week out and positioning herself as a role model for those around her.
In the final game of the 2023 season, Swanson recorded her 1000th disposal, tallying her touches across her time at Greater Western Sydney and West Coast.
Swanson, who was already contracted for 2024, said the team has a clear vision for the future, and she’s excited with where the club is heading.
“I think at my age, to have the security of staying in the one spot for the next four years and helping this footy club build something special is really exciting for me,” Swanson said.
“I really believe in the direction we’re heading, there’s no sugar coating the disappointment we’ve had over the last couple of years, but there’s obviously been enough positives to maintain my belief.
“Surrounding myself with the young girls coming through and watching someone like Charlie (Thomas) do what she’s done in the last 12 months, just fills me with so much excitement and energy.
“I don’t want to finish my career having not won a premiership, and as a club, that’s our goal and that’s where we’re heading and the girls are super clear that we want to play finals footy, that’s why we play the game, and I believe we can do that over the next couple of years.”
