The first box has been ticked.

Retiring champions Luke Shuey and Shannon Hurn negotiated the last hurdle by completing main training and have been selected to play against Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

The West Coast Eagles stars, who will retire with 248 and 333 games against their names respectively, will take their place and bid farewell to their playing careers in front of what looms as a massive home game crowd.

Hurn has been battling a sore Achilles and Shuey has overcome a minor hamstring strain to play in their farewell match.

Unfortunately, star ruckman Nic Naitanui will not be able to join them after recent Achilles surgery, but he will be a part of the festivities.

Hurn and Shuey have been recalled with young defender Brady Hough, who also resumes after consecutive bouts of illness sidelined him in the last fortnight.

Making way for that trio are young wingman Campbell Chesser, midfielder Zane Trew and rebounding defender Jamaine Jones. They have all been named on the emergency list with tall defender Rhett Bazzo and one of the four will start as the tactical substitute.

Chesser and Jones were in the starting 22 last week while Trew was the sub and was injected into the game to replace injured star Elliot Yeo, who suffered a hamstring strain in the final term.

Trew had an impact in the last quarter, kicking an important goal as the Eagles scored an upset seven-point win against the Western Bulldogs.
