Exciting mid-season draftee Ryan Maric is among four inclusions to the West Coast Eagles' 26-man squad as they prepare to tackle finals aspirants the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
Maric, 18, missed last week’s derby defeat with a calf strain but has trained impressively through this week and has earned an immediate recall. He had played eight successive games after his debut in round 13 against Adelaide before the injury.
The agile forward has been named in the starting 18 while other possible inclusions – midfielder Zane Trew, ruckman Callum Jamieson and speedy utility player Jack Petruccelle have been named on and extended interchange bench.
The only exclusion from last week’s team at this stage is midfielder Greg Clark. Last week’s tactical substitute Clark played a little less than a quarter and then played the following day against Subiaco in the WAFL but received a one-game suspension.
Brady Hough, who was a late withdrawal last week, has been hit with a second bout of illness and could not be considered.
Also named on an interchange bench that will be refined tomorrow afternoon are utility player Samo Petrevski-Seton, midfielder Xavier O’Neill, defenders Luke Foley and Jamaine Jones and forward ruckman Jack Williams.
The match committee and medical staff took a conservative approach with captain Luke Shuey, who will not play but is almost certain to take the field for a farewell match alongside long-time teammate and close friend Shannon Hurn.
