Quality efforts from a range of West Coast-listed players enabled East Perth to reverse their round one form and produce a solid victory against Swan Districts.
Led by experienced forward Josh Hill and emerging midfielder Brant Colledge, the Royals produced a far more convincing display than in the opening round and clinched a 13-point victory over Swans at Medibank Stadium.
The Royals led from the outset, with Colledge (30 possessions and nine marks) at the forefront, along with Hill, who capped off his 20-disposal game with three goals, while Kane Lucas was again ubiquitous on a wing with 24 touches.
Youngsters Liam Duggan (22 touches and two goals) playing through the midfield and pushing forward, Alec Waterman (26 possessions and two goals) and Simon Tunbridge (13 touches and eight marks) were all under notice.
The quality of the ball use from Duggan and Waterman was a feature, while Tunbridge proved a reliable hit-up target in attack, particularly when he played as a tall attacking option when Fraser McInnes was utilised in the ruck.
McInnes again worked strongly and had 20 hit outs when covering for the injured Paul Johnson.
The Royals were not without their injury concerns because Murray Newman, who was lively early, rolled an ankle and took no further part after quarter-time.
Jamie Bennell provided some strong rebound out of the back half to ensure he remains in calculations for a start in the AFL season opener against Western Bulldogs, while Malcolm Karpany did some good things and Irishman Paddy Brophy continues to develop his understanding of the game in defence.
In addition to those players who were central to an East Perth victory in the seniors, a cluster of players were also engaged in the reserves. Unfortunately, Tom Barrass and Rowen Powell, after lively starts received minor injuries, but wingman Dylan Main and defender Corey Adamson were solid.
Main had 20 possessions and five marks, while Adamson accumulated 18 touches and five marks playing mainly off half-back.
