Injured hard nut Beau Waters had a nice break from Perth’s recent wet weather and was able to experience the lovely sunny climate of the Pilbara last week as a part of the Kicking Goals program.
Waters joined former West Coast players Brad Smith and Peter Matera at St Cecilia Primary School and Port Hedland Primary School where they spoke about the importance of staying in school, reaching your potential, looking after the environment, helping your community as well as the benefits of Australia’s favourite game: football.
In a unique partnership between BHP Billiton Iron Ore, Swan Districts Football Club and the West Coast Eagles the Kicking Goals program is able to promote positive community and education messages in a fun and interactive way.
Waters even donned the Rick the Rock mascot outfit to entertain the wide eyed children. They loved every minute of it, especially when he did the moon walk.
After a healthy eating talk from the Kicks4Kidz program, the students were involved in a Kicking Goals skills session where Waters, Smith and Matera concentrated on developing skills at stoppages.
The fifteen lucky children were able to practice boundary throw-ins and ruck work before the Kicking Goals team had to say goodbye so they could visit the after-school homework centre followed by the aged care facility Kalarra.
July 29 will be the next time the West Coast Eagles and the Kicking Goals Program, visit the Pilbara community.
