The West Coast Eagles are set to regain Luke Shuey before the bye, with the inspirational skipper in the final phases of reconditioning before a scheduled return against Adelaide.

Shuey’s imminent comeback will be a boost following the inclusions of experienced trio Shannon Hurn, Elliot Yeo and Tom Barrass last round, with vice-captain Jeremy McGovern and key forward Jack Darling not far away.

“Luke has done a power of work and is at the final stages of his reconditioning. He’s got another week of that and we look forward to seeing him back out there against Adelaide,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“Jeremy has been progressing through his rehab phases and he’s entering that later stage after his hamstring surgery. This is a really important last couple of weeks where he gets his high-speed run and really powerful, explosive actions out on the field.

“Jack has progressed really nicely after his arm surgery. The good thing is he’s been able to keep his running conditioning going.”

The Eagles are unlikely to be reinforced from the injury front for Saturday’s clash against Collingwood, and have lost speedy utility Jamaine Jones for about two months following ankle surgery on Monday.

Jones is expected to play again later in the season, but will need to be replaced in the line-up to take on the Pies, along with Luke Edwards (concussion protocols).

“Jamaine had surgery on his ankle yesterday to stabilise the syndesmosis and he’ll have a quiet first couple of weeks and then get into his active recovery,” Finucane said.

“Luke was subbed out at half-time and has entered the concussion protocols and will just progress through those as the symptoms present.”

Meanwhile, Samo Petrevski-Seton is nearing a return from a nasty corked quad suffered against his former club Carlton in round seven.

“Samo is getting very close to a return to play. He just needs a conditioning build after the time he has had off after the severe cork that he had in his quad,” Finucane said.

“He’s looking good out there and looking forward to seeing him back next week.”

Key defender Harry Edwards’ groin injury, which ruled him out of last round’s loss to Essendon, is still being allowed to settle before he progresses through his football loads.
