Captain Luke Shuey, who has missed the last couple of matches with a hamstring strain, was confirmed as a starter against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval as the West Coast Eagles travelled to the city of churches today.
The return of Shuey is a timely fillip for the Eagles as they strive to add another four premiership points to a campaign that has been hard hit by injury.
The 241-game veteran has been named in the midfield and joins young defender Luke Foley and emerging midfielders Zane Trew and Connor West in the starting 22. West was the substitute last week and was injected into the game in the third quarter as rookie Reuben Ginbey was managed.
Trew has built a strong case to add to the two senior matches he played last season with consistent performances at WAFL level.
Foley, the travelling emergency last week, has been named on the interchange bench with West.
As announced earlier in the week, star utility player Elliot Yeo is sidelined with an adductor strain, while defender Brady Hough and forward Noah Long could not be considered because of injury. Midfielder Xavier O’Neill has been dropped.
O’Neill has been listed as an emergency alongside young defender Rhett Bazzo and developing ruckmen Callum Jamieson and Harry Barnett.
