The WAFL Eagles won their final practice match in a 34-point victory against Subiaco Lions at Leederville oval on Saturday.
WAFL coach Rob Wiley runs through the AFL-listed players’ performances:
Luke Edwards: Best game that Luke's played this pre-season, very clean around the stoppages and used the ball well. Really pleased that he's able to to get some much fitness under his belt.
Jack Petruccelle: Again, was very dangerous with the ball and is always a thorn in an opposition side with his pace and great ball skills so it's another step in the right direction for Petch.
Isiah Winder: Worked hard up forward and probably should have kicked three goals but when you are having three shots on goal as a forward then you're dangerous so another solid preseason game for Isiah.
Greg Clark: Continued his great form on the wing. Won plenty of football both defensively and offensively and his leadership was outstanding.
Xavier O'Neill: He won a lot of football through the midfield and also up forward, was hard at it, clean and used the ball much better this week than he did the week before.
Zane Trew: He is a player who has changed his work ethic from last year. After injuries last year, its great to see him stay on the park training hard keeping his work rate at AFL standard.
Luke Foley: Solid across halfback, intercepted some good football from the opposition and used it well. He kicked a goal in the first quarter which is always pleasing for a backman to do. He gave us a lot of drive and security in the back half.
Harry Edwards: Solid in defense all day. Spoilt and marked well using the ball to our advantage. Showing his versatility, he went forward late and kicked a goal.
Harry Barnett: It was a great test for Barnett playing up against Subiaco's Zac Clarke and did very well against him. He ran off Clarke a few times, he shows an amazing mobility for a big bloke. After halftime he controlled the stoppages and gave our midfielders a chance to win it.
Rhett Bazzo: Pleasingly he was able to play more game time this week and got through unscathed. Very good in defense and just finding his feet offensively but the big tick was him being able to play more minutes this week.
Josh Rotham: Outstanding effort to come back after his injury so quickly and fitness was a credit to him, the way he ran out the game, gave us great leadership and drive from the back line.
Connor West: One of our best through his work ethic, stoppage craft and through his ability to be able to connect defense into attack.
Tyrell Dewar: Unfortunately injured himself early in the second quarter and didn't take any further part in the game. Every time that he can get out against men it will be a great learning curve for him, he shows dash and excitement.
Jai Culley: A very strong contributor in the midfield, he did a lot of grunt work around the pack with he's running ability. It was great to see him play out four quarters after a minor injury last week.
With less than a week left until the 2023 WAFL season officially kicks off, the WAFL Eagles will take on South Fremantle in a round one clash on Saturday 8th April.
Bouncedown is at 2:10pm at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
