Some of the club’s Hall of Fame luminaries – and potentially some future inductees – will give West Coast Eagles fans an added incentive to go early to Sunday’s opening home game against GWS.

An AFL9s curtain raiser starting at 12.55pm will be played involving a number of the club’s past greats and their children, who are part of a second generation academy.

Champion forwards Brett Heady and Phil Matera, inducted into the Hall of Fame just a few weeks ago, and all-Australian captain Darren Glass will all be involved in this Optus Stadium experience with their children.

In addition to those stars, Brownlow medallist Ben Cousins, premiership wingman Michael Braun, dual premiership hero Drew Banfield, 2014 Club Champion Eric Mackenzie, classy forward Ashley Sampi and smooth striding wingman Matt Rosa will be in action.

It will be low intensity clash – as far as the former stars are concerned – but their kids are unlikely to give them any leeway.

The club has been building its connection with the OWLS (older, wiser, larger, slower) group for more than a decade, ensuring the off-spring of all players to represent the club feel the sense that this is their club.
