In a close match that came down to the final minutes, the Eagles held onto their lead in the last term and defeated Claremont by two points.

A strong start saw the Eagles in front by three goals at quarter time, but the Tigers clawed their way back during the second term to secure a seven-point lead heading into half-time.

The Eagles responded and nudged clear in the closing minutes of the third quarter, allowing them to enter the final term with a four-point lead.

The first minute of the fourth term saw Claremont snag a quick goal, but the young West Coast side fought back and with composure they hung onto their lead and claimed the two-point victory 12.8 (80) 12.6 (78).

WAFL Coach Rob Wiley runs through the AFL-listed players’ performances:

Harry Edwards: Very solid particularly in the second half where he got into the game and had some crucial intercept marks and spoils.

Brady Hough: Had a very solid four quarter effort, defended well, used the ball well and provided a lot of hard runs.

Luke Foley: Put in a four-quarter effort with plenty of courageous acts, used the ball well and like Hough provided some good run and some great intercepts at crucial times.

Coby Burgiel: Ball in hand was very good and set us up on numerous occasions. Being his first senior game at WAFL level it was really encouraging to see.

Greg Clark: Played his role brilliantly and provided some good leadership towards the younger players.

Luke Edwards: Made some crucial plays on the wing in the second half when the game was up for grabs. Having not played much football this year, it was great to see him out there and he can only get better every time he steps out onto the park.

Sammo Petrevski-Seton: Influential performance and elite pressure. Kicking two goals was a great reward for all his efforts.
