The West Coast Eagles have locked in another exciting AFLW talent with young gun Charlie Thomas extending her contract until at least the end of 2024.
Hot on the heels of three key youngsters putting pen to paper earlier in the AFLW Sign and Trade Period, Thomas has shown her confidence in the Eagles’ program by adding a year to her existing agreement with the club.
“I think everyone can see, and definitely amongst the team we can see, that we’re going from strength-to-strength and what we’re building is really, really exciting to be a part of,” Thomas said.
“We’ve got pretty much all of us staying on which I think is a strong indication of the culture we’ve built, so I’m just keen to be a part of that for as long as I can.”
One of West Coast’s brightest emerging stars, Thomas finished fourth in last season’s Club Champion count after finding her niche as a key pillar in defence under coach Michael Prior.
The athletic and strong-marking 19-year-old has played every game since she was selected with the No.1 pick in the WA-based draft pool (No.3 overall) in 2021, forming part of the spine the team is building around in the push for sustained success.

“Obviously still got so, so much to learn which is really exciting, but I think I settled down back last year working with ‘Roey’ (backline coach Rohan McHugh) and the backline which I really enjoyed,” Thomas said.
“I was able to get a few good games under my belt but always looking to improve and really excited for this season to keep building on that.”
Among Thomas’ list of accolades is the Best First-Year Player award she received following AFLW season six, and a Rising Star nomination in season seven.
Head of Women’s Football Michelle Cowan was thrilled Thomas had committed to the club for at least the next two seasons.
“Charlie’s growth as a player on and off the field has been terrific to see,” Cowan said.
“She is an outstanding character who continues to drive herself and the team to higher standards.
“An incredible club person who we see has a long future at West Coast Eagles.”
