Last night at the Phelan Medal Awards evening the East Coast Eagles duo of Tim Physick and Tim Kear were announced as joint winners of the Sanders Medal.

The Sanders Medal is awarded for the Best and Fairest in the Sydney AFL Premier Division Reserve Grade competition. They both polled 15 votes each and were two clear of their nearest rivals.

Tim Physick was a run away leader after 13 rounds, but young Tim Kear polled six votes in the last three rounds to ensure joint winners for the East Coast Eagles.

It has been a contrasting year for both the Tims.

Tim Physick has been a tower of strength down back for the Eagles. He is the rock that holds the back line together, rarely gets out-pointed and has led by example in every game. He shows the way for the young players to learn from.

Tim Kear has had an up and down year. After a good debut season in First Grade in 2006 he would have hoped to cement a spot in the seniors in 2007. This was not to be and he only played five games at the elite level. At no stage though did Tim drop his bundle and he has continued to strive to improve his game. This is a great reward for hard work.

Indeed it’s a wonderful reward for both Tims and a well deserved one.

Let’s hope they and the rest of their team mates all have another medal after the Grand Final on Saturday.

Congratulations Tim and Tim …
