Premiership teammates Chris Masten and Liam Duggan have been recalled for Saturday’s season-shaping showdown with Hawthorn at Optus Stadium.

As the competition moves into an intriguing final round the Eagles could finish anywhere between first and fifth, but the club focus will be the task at hand against Hawthorn – the part of the equation within its control. 

Duggan, who has not played senior football since the round 16 derby because of ankle injury, makes his return along with Masten, who has missed the past two games.

Making way for that pair are first-year defender Josh Rotham, who acquitted himself well at the MCG last Sunday against Richmond, and versatile midfielder Mark Hutchings, who strained a hamstring early against the Tigers.

Duggan suffered a syndesmosis injury against Fremantle, returned through the WAFL three weeks ago only to suffer an early knock to the knee against Swan Districts.

But he resumed last Friday night in flood-like conditions against East Perth and was a strong contributor in a victory that gives the WAFL Eagles a chance to play finals in their first season in the competition.

Masten was also solid against the former alignment club and was a natural replacement for Hutchings.

While Rotham played his role against Richmond, Duggan has long been a first-choice selection for the Eagles and is one of the respected young leaders at the club.

The four emergencies listed are another couple of premiership heroes, defender Will Schofield and ruckman-forward Nathan Vardy, while young forward Jarrod Cameron and utility player Brendon Ah Chee are also on the short-list should a late opportunity arise.

Schofield travelled with the team last week before the match committee opted to elevate Rotham on game day.
