The annual Natainui Cup took place on Friday 7th October at Higgins Park, the home of the Vic Park Raiders Junior Football Club.

Developing football talents from their respective zones showcased their skills in a five-game tournament umpired by SEDA.

The five teams vying for the title represented their respective WAFL aligned districts: Swan Districts, East Perth, Perth and Subiaco.

The Edmund Rice Centre, a multicultural community organisation, also participated in the competition.

The teams were coached by volunteers and ECU students who have been part of the football program through the clubs partnership with ECU.

At the end of the day the team with the most points was crowned the Naitanui champion team, who are presented with the winning trophy and medals.

Swan Districts were champions for the second time in what was the closest carnival in history. The grand final went down to a final kick with a game saving tackle on the siren to seal the win for Swans.

Naitanui Academy Manager Chris Brown said the event was a great success.

“It’s a great way for our players to be rewarded for their great training and dedication over the years and showcase the young exciting talent coming through our academy,” Chris said.

“A lot of those kids are representing the West Coast Eagles for first time so it’s a great way for them to get involved.”

The event marked the sixth annual Naitanui Cup, which continues to uncover talent and is a cornerstone of our Naitanui Academy programs.

The club would like to thank BHP, SEDA, Edith Cowan University, the Town of Vic Park and all volunteers who participated on the day.
