The West Coast Eagles have struck an early blow in the quest to replenish their list by snaring pacy Melbourne utility player Jayden Hunt early in the free agency period.

Hunt comes as an unrestricted free agent after playing 114 games since being drafted with selection 57 in the 2013 draft.

A running half-back or wingman, he has played 40 games for the Dees in the last two years, but unfortunately missed out on the opportunity to play in their 2021 premiership because of an ankle injury.

“We’re thrilled that Jayden has opted to join our club as a free agent,” national recruiting manager Rohan O’Brien said after the paperwork formalising the deal was completed today.

“We believe he has some attributes that will complement our list and look forward to him joining the boys for the start of pre-season.”

Hunt had several suitors, but after visiting the club last week and meeting coach Adam Simpson and some of the senior players, the 27-year-old notified the Demons of his desire to pursue the next chapter of his career at the Eagles.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to play in an improving team and to have a fresh start,” Hunt said. “I’m also excited to try something new after being in Melbourne all my life.

“At the end of last year I travelled around WA a bit and loved it. I was also over last week to have a look around the club and I’m really looking forward getting across there.”
