Exciting West Coast forward Ella Roberts had a memorable performance against Hawthorn in round six, kicking her first goal and earning a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination.
Roberts’ nomination follows ruck Sarah Lakay also earning the gong for her dominant aerial work against Fremantle in the RAC Derby in the previous round, further highlighting the bright future ahead for coach Michael Prior’s developing group.
In what was an extremely tight game against the Hawks, Roberts finished with 15 disposals and six score involvements to add to her major, and looked a constant threat in attack.
The 17-year-old was the 14th pick in the AFLW Draft – and first selection from the WA draft pool – and arrived into the competition as one of the most promising youngsters within the 2022 class after winning the Most Valuable Player Award at the Under-18s carnival.
The Peel product’s versatility and aggression around the ball have been valuable assets for the Eagles this season, and Roberts’ future looks extremely bright just six games into her blossoming career.
Roberts was humbled by the news and credited her teammates for their support and guidance as she adjusts to elite football.
