Called into the team to debut before anyone predicted in round two against North Melbourne – and into the unfamiliar role of key defender – Jamieson nevertheless impressed with his competitiveness and grew as a ruckman in 2022.
When superstar Nic Naitanui went down with a three-month knee injury, Jamieson was next in line to partner Bailey Williams and the lanky 200cm project player performed admirably despite regularly giving away plenty of size to his opponents.
Managed nine games before being shut down following round 18 due to groin soreness, and the steep learning curve at the top level is sure to hold Jamieson in good stead as he matures into his body.
Standout performance: Into the Lions’ den
Jamieson’s athleticism and ability to get involved at ground level after the ruck contest were his strongest attributes in 2022, and highlighted during his first game in the centre – and second of his career – against Brisbane in round eight.
The understrength Eagles – without Naitanui, Williams (hamstring) and Luke Strnadica (Health and Safety) – called on Jamieson and he didn’t let the team down.
The 22-year-old had 12 disposals, eight contested possessions, took four marks and won 13 hit-outs in a difficult venue for opposition teams.
