Speedy half-back Jamaine Jones is a chance to face his former side Geelong on Saturday after recovering well from back spasms he suffered during the RAC Derby.
Jones, who played seven games for the Cats in 2018, was subbed out of the clash with Fremantle during the third quarter on Saturday night.
“Jamaine had some back spasms during the game and he was just feeling like he was struggling to function with the pain associated with that, so we substituted him out,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“Like these things can, it has turned a corner after a couple of days.
“He’s been able to get out there with the lighter start to the week, but he’ll be a test at main training later in the week to be available for the weekend.”
Star ruckman Nic Naitanui continues to manage knee soreness and has had a light week at training so far.
A decision will be made on his availability to face the minor premiers on their home deck at GMHBA Stadium later this week.
“Nic’s been hampered a little bit by his knee over the past few weeks. It’s no different this week, but weighing everything up in the best interest of Nic and leading into the off-season,” Finucane said.
Meanwhile, gun midfielder Elliot Yeo’s frustrating season of setbacks is officially over after just five AFL appearances, with the dual John Worsfold medallist running out of time to return from a calf injury.
Small forward Jack Petruccelle is also unavailable for the Cats game due to the hamstring strain he suffered against Gold Coast in round 20.
“Jack and Elliot have really just run out of time in their rebuild from their respective soft-tissue injuries,” Finucane said.
“We didn’t want to take any risk with both of them who have recurrent soft-tissue injuries this year.
“They needed the extra time and just haven’t had that.”
