With only two rounds left, it’s not relief West Coast are looking for, but the opportunity to relish in big games and finish strong, defender Tom Barrass says.
The Eagles farewelled all-time great Josh Kennedy on Sunday at Optus Stadium in a high-pressure game but ultimately fell short to Adelaide by 16 points.
After a disappointing loss, Barrass said the Eagles are looking forward to the final two rounds of the season and getting some reward for effort following some competitive defeats.
“You’ve got to relish in the opportunity of big games – we’re looking to finish the season strongly,” Barrass said.
West Coast will take on Fremantle in the RAC Derby at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
Barrass is looking forward to coming up against West Coast’s cross-town rivals and up for the challenge that lies ahead.
“You want to play big games against strong teams,” Barrass said.
“It will be a big crowd and those are important games to play in.
“It’s a good challenge and a big game. That’s what you’re after.”
For the Eagles, looking at ways to get better will continue to be a major theme after the AFL season is over.
Improving players post season will involve some of them joining the WAFL final rounds to keep working on their craft.
“You’ll see some of our boys playing WAFL after the season is done for the opportunity to get better and to keep getting better.” Barrass said.
“That’s going to be a theme of ours for the next few years and it will be a driving force to our improvement as an entire footy club.
“We’ll be taking the same approach getting evidence of our system in the way we are going to play moving forward in the next five years.”
