The West Coast Eagles have taken an exciting step into their AFLW future following an impressive draft haul at Wednesday night's 2022 player ballot.
The Eagles added seven new players from the WA-based draft to their developing squad. Read the draft file for every pick below.
Profile: Ella Roberts

Tall forward Ella Roberts was one of the most anticipated youngsters to come out of the 2022 draft. With a Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award to her name in her bottom-age under-18s carnival, the crafty 17-year-old has shown some promising signs, with her grasp of the fundamentals catching the eye of recruiters. With high-level aggression at the ball and the ability to play in a number of positions across the ground, Roberts will be a fine addition to West Coast's younger cohort and is expected to make her debut in the upcoming season.

"Outstanding last two years as a 17 and 18-year-old. Coming off an ankle injury at the start of the year but is performing really well in the back half of the year. Under-18s MVP last year, and again WA MVP this year."

Age: 18

Position: Ruck

All-Australian ruck Lauren Wakfer is a state-bred talent with the ability to present as a fourth midfielder. Her capacity to win the ball at stoppages and dispose cleanly makes her one of the most exciting tall players in this year's AFLW Draft. Covering plenty of ground and filling the stats sheet, Wakfer has been the top performing ruck in the West Australian draft pool. Working hard defensively and presenting well up forward helps the 17-year-old take advantage of less mobile rucks with athleticism and an impressive vertical leap.

"Probably the leading ruck in Australia, under-18s. Very athletic, great competitor, and will play a whole range of different positions. Very versatile, did her ACL three weeks ago, however, comfortably one of the best players in the WA draft pool so we had no hesitation in selecting her with our second pick."

Age: 17
Height: 169cm
Position: Midfielder/Forward
Recruited from: Swan Districts WAFLW

Swan Districts product, Abby Bushby, is a versatile left footer with good goal sense. Hitting the scoreboard consistently, the athletic utility player has improved her game further over the past 12 months. She boasts a nice balance of offensive and defensive traits. With her explosive speed and match endurance, the exciting youngster has capacity to find the ball and uses it with precision.

"Has improved sharply over the last 12 months, plays at Swan Districts, inside, outside midfielder with a really neat left foot kick. Reads the game well and is tough inside the contest. There's going to be a lot of upside with Abby and we think she's going to be a really good player in the future."

Position: Inside Midfielder

Small midfielder Emily Elkington packs a punch in the cauldron, averaging nine tackles a game at the AFLW under-18 Championships while evading opponents with an impressive turn-of-foot. Arguably the best kick in the AFLW Draft crop, the teenager usually makes the correct decisions under pressure and can hit targets with precision. Her potent boot and football nous make her a valuable addition to the club as a modern midfielder.

"Had a really strong start to the year with Claremont. Small inside, outside midfielder who can also play forward. Really clean with the footy and high work rate. Missed the chance due to illness but has come back and had a good back end of the year."

Age: 24

Position: Outside Midfielder

Pacy wing Mikayla Western will join fellow Claremont products Ella Smith and Sasha Goranova in the West Coast engine room for the upcoming season. Having previously played one game for cross-town rivals Fremantle, the 24-year-old returned to Claremont and further developed her craft across the 2022 season. Piecing together a solid campaign this year with elite speed and goal sense, the exciting mid-forward will be one to watch this season.

"Really quick wing or half forward, who can also play in the backline if needed. She has extremely good endurance and covers the ground well. We think there's a lot of upside with Mikayla and can play an important role at our club as she continues to develop."

Position: Outside Midfielder

A successful pre-season translated into a compelling 2022 campaign for Jaide Britton, with the 19-year-old working on her versatility and catching the eye of recruiters. An extremely damaging outside midfielder, Britton has the speed and endurance to break open a game with an eye-catching ability to hit targets at speed. Not afraid to win her own ball and fight hard for the footy, the crafty winger's work rate and intensity makes her an exciting prospect in this years' AFLW Draft.

Age: 18

Position: Key Defender

Exciting defender Zoe Wakfer may be a little raw - having played football for just 12 months - but caught the eye of recruiters with her composure and poise around the ball. Making her WAFLW debut after just two Rogers Cup matches, Wakfer was amongst the best Bulldogs on the day with 12 disposals, three tackles and two inside 50s. After solidifying a spot in the senior side, the youngster has shown some positive signs and will further develop her craft at West Coast.
