West Coast Eagles inaugural captain and Brownlow medallist Ross Glendinning has hailed the 2013 Border Patrol program a “huge success” and says the team can’t wait to do it all again next year.
The final Border Patrol expedition for year was to the annual Dowerin Field Days, with Glendinning and the Border Patrol team heading out to the iconic country festival, which is the largest field days registered in the state.
The team travelled north to assist their Toyota counterparts in spreading the word about our partnership and engaging with the many attendees, including a large contingent of children from surrounding Primary Schools.
Glendinning said it was a terrific way to bring a close to another successful year.
“Both days provided us a chance to continue the ERMS legacy amongst the farming, regional community.
“It’s always a great time to mingle with those from the land and get an appreciation of how tough a time a lot of them are enduring at present.”
West Coast mascot Rick the Rock Eagle went along for the ride as well, providing much amusement for young fans.
“Rick the Rock provided plenty of laughs while shaping up to a Ninja outside a display tent and attempting to drive farm machinery, motor bikes that are well beyond his capabilities,” Glendinning said.
“He was best suited to a hammock display that saw him comfortably catch a few ZZZ’s!!”
The program, proudly supported by Toyota WA, saw the West Coast Eagles take football right across the state, visiting communities in WA’s great southern, Kimberley, Pilbara, Wheatbelt, Goldfields and South West regions.
Along the way, Glendinning was joined by Eagles greats including Glen Jakovich, Dean Kemp and David Hart, as the Border Patrol team hit the road to regional communities where they visited primary schools and high schools for football and reading clinics.
“Both the West Coast Eagles and Toyota WA were very pleased with the success of the Border Patrol program last year, and 2013 has seen that trend continue to grow,” Glendinning said.
“We’ve visited towns and communities all over the state, so it’s been a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
“The West Coast Eagles Football Club has fans all over WA, not just in Perth, so to head out to these remote areas and meet our supporters across the state of WA is a unique opportunity.
“And the continued support from Toyota WA has allowed us to do so,” Glendinning added.
The West Coast Eagles would like to thank Toyota WA for making Border Patrol possible as well as the additional support from Caltex and BHP Billiton.
