Veteran defender Shannon Hurn produced another outstanding display in an RAC Derby when he finished runner-up in the Glendinning-Allan Medal despite his team losing by about nine goals.

In tandem with Jeremy McGovern he was outstanding in the back half and a major factor behind the Eagles staying in the game for as long as they did.

Hurn had 27 possessions and took 12 marks, five of them intercepts that stopped Fremantle attacking probes. He also used his booming right foot to gain 526 metres for his team and used all of his experience to help younger teammates cope with the situation.

Fremantle led the inside 50 count 55-46 and Hurn and McGovern stood out like beacons in a disappointing overall performance.

Hurn polled four votes in the best-on-ground honours behind Fremantle forward-midfielder Lachie Schultz.
