West Coast’s Willie Rioli has challenged a one-match sanction for rough conduct offered by the Match Review Officer following his collision with Gold Coast’s Matt Rowell in the third quarter of Sunday’s match at Optus Stadium.
Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.
The incident was classified as a one-match sanction as a first offence.
Rioli, who was playing his first match since the 2019 elimination final during the clash with the Suns, chose not to accept the sanction with an early plea and will challenge it at the AFL Tribunal.
If Rioli's sanction is upheld he would miss Sunday's clash with North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.
