With last week’s round of introductions out of the way, West Coast’s four local draftees got down to business on Monday, joining a host of their new teammates in a skills session at Mineral Resources Park.

Just days after finding their way onto the Eagles’ list Brady Hough, Rhett Bazzo, Jack Williams and Greg Clark were welcomed with the traditional first set shot for goal, before being put through their paces during some ball drills and tackling practice.

Unlike years gone by, new draftees are no longer thrown into the deep end to sink or swim, and it wasn’t too long before development coach Kyal Horsley – who was previously Clark’s premiership captain at Subiaco – took the quartet aside for some conditioning work.

A range of players ran through their individual programs, including star midfielder Elliot Yeo who is one of the senior Eagles who has returned to training earlier than required following two seasons impacted by osteitis pubis.

Former skipper Shannon Hurn continued to impress with his sharpness early in the pre-season, while rookie Connor West’s ability to cover the ground stood out alongside the running power of emerging pair Xavier O’Neill and Jack Petruccelle.

The players will be back on the track this Wednesday, December 1 from 9.15am onwards and West Coast members and supporters are welcome to attend open training at Mineral Resources Park.
