Season four in blue and gold saw another step forward from the 22-year-old speedster, who put his injury-ravaged 2020 behind him and ensured his tantalising talent was on display more regularly.
Kicking 13 goals and averaging 11.5 disposals in his first eight games was a fast start to 2021 and showed Petruccelle was getting involved in the action and having an impact.
Three of those matches included multiple goals – with the highlight undoubtedly a four-goal performance in the tough round four loss to St Kilda.
But, after missing the bulk of last year due to a severe tear, minor hamstring issues continued to hamper his efforts at maintaining continuity in the senior side.
Setbacks cost him games in rounds five and six, the round 13 epic against Richmond and round 19 win over the Saints, coming off one of his best performances against the Crows (20 disposals, two goals).
Petruccelle finished the campaign with 17 appearances and 16 goals, while averaging 10.4 disposals, and is among the next generation who will be keen to drive West Coast forward next season.
Standout performance: Starring against the Saints
Petruccelle’s three-goal first half was instrumental as the Eagles opened up what appeared to be a match-defining 28-point advantage over St Kilda at half-time of their Marvel Stadium clash in round four.
One of those majors featured a clever spin out of a tackle and quick-thinking finish on the cusp of quarter-time.
But the highlight was probably the best goal of his 46-game career, when Petruccelle received a handball, dished off to Jack Redden, got it back and then switched on the afterburners to evade two Saints and snap a scintillating checkside through the big sticks.
Ultimately, it was all in a losing cause, but it was an impressive all-around performance from the electric half-forward, who also had 13 disposals, with four inside 50s and three tackles.
Season averages:
Disposals – 10.4
Marks – 3.5
Inside 50s – 2.4
Intercept Possessions – 1.8
Goals – 0.9
