Josh Rotham rose to the challenge in 2021, becoming one of the young leaders in West Coast’s backline after the injuries of defensive quartet Shannon Hurn, Brad Sheppard, Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass across the year.
Rotham’s ability to get involved in ball movement was evident in round five and seven wins against Collingwood and Fremantle, where he pulled in 15 and 12 marks respectively.
The 23-year-old played in 19 matches for the season and was a reliable contributor off half-back, averaging 8.5 marks per match – the second best in the league – as well as boasting a kicking efficiency at 86.6%.
Best season performance: Flying high against the Pies
Rotham is known for his aerial prowess and marking ability, but reached new heights against the Magpies, with a career-high 15.
This paired nicely with 23 touches, 20 kicks, and 18 effective disposals, which saw Rotham show he has a bright future in the Eagles’ backline.
The performance was Rotham’s career-best in his three seasons at West Coast, and went hand-in-hand with his breakout season at the club.
