Elite defender Evie Gooch has played 40 AFLW games as she enters her seventh season in the League. Another cross-code player, Gooch came across from the W-League where she represented the Perth Glory until 2017 before being drafted by Fremantle. After being placed on the in-active list for AFLW season seven, Gooch joined the Eagles coaching ranks as a development coach working with the team’s backline. Her input in season seven had a major impact on the rise of young defenders like Charlie Thomas and Sophie McDonald. As a result, Gooch was awarded the season seven Best Club Person award at the 2022 Club Champion awards night. Gooch returned to the field in 2023, showing her poise and experience in the backline and played some of her best football in the second half of the season.
