The West Coast Eagles picked up promising young Peel Thunder product Clay Hall with pick 38 in the 2023 national draft and were immediately impressed by his tenacity over pre-season. The bullocking inside midfielder looked on target for a potential round one debut before an ankle setback early in the intraclub derailed those ambitions, and it wasn’t until round 21 that Hall finally broke through, starting as the sub in a tense victory over Gold Coast. He managed two further appearances – the comeback win over North in round 22 in Hobart and last game in Geelong – to add to his 13 games experience for the WAFL Eagles and was trialled on a wing at times. The son of former West Coast forward Derek, who played two games for the Eagles in 1993 before moving to Geelong.
