Round Six Derby, 2000

This match holds the record for the largest margin in history. Scott Cummings kicked 10 goals and led West Coast to a 117-point victory.

Derby XII round 21, 2000 (The Demolition Derby)

This was one of the most infamous Derbies of all time, and not for good reason. Both sides scrapped it out in a mud-slinging match, with four players eventually suspended for a total of 15 matches.

London Derby, 2005

In 2005 the Derby was played at The Oval in Kennington, South London. This was the only time the fixture has been played outside of Perth. No footage has ever been released from the game.


Round Eight Derby, 2011

In this match, Eagles tall forwards Josh Kennedy, Quinten Lynch and newbie Jack Darling kicked six goals between them to help West Coast win by 33.

Derby XLLII Round 20, 2015

The Eagles wanted to ensure the Dockers weren’t going to even the playing field with 21 wins apiece in this famous Derby. They did so with seven goals to one in the opening quarter.

Round 18 Derby, 2011

The Eagles took home another win in 2011, this time by only one point. It was a close call after Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne’s boundary line 50m shot hit the post after the siren.

Derby LL Round 16, 2019

The Eagles took home a fantastic victory in this match, while also holding Fremantle to the lowest score in Derby history, with 2.19 (31). West Coast won by 91 points.

Derby LI, 2020 

This was the first time only a single Derby was played in a year, with the COVID-19 pandemic reducing the season to only 17 games. West Coast won by 30 points and also set a new record of 10 consecutive Derby wins.

In 2020, the 50% capacity crowd of 25,306 was the highest for the AFL since the pandemic started, but the lowest ever for a Derby.

In contrast, the biggest ever crowd was recorded in round four 2019, with 58,219. It was an Eagles home game and they came out of the clash 13-point victors.

Mark LeCras, Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling have all accumulated their top career goals against Fremantle, and all within 18 games.

Kennedy has taken out 47 goals, with an average of 2.53 per game, LeCras sits just below with 43 and 2.39, and Darling has 40 with 2.23.

Dean Cox has clashed with Fremantle 27 times, the most of any West Coast Eagles player. Darren Glass and Shannon Hurn are next on the list, tied for 24.

Don Pyke

Don Pyke was the top ball-winner in the first ever Western Derby in 1995, with 24 kicks from 28 possessions.

John Worsfold

Former Eagles captain and coach John Worsfold has competed in five Derbies, including the inaugural match-up in 1995, never losing to the Dockers.

Brett Heady

Brett Heady made history in 1995, booting two first quarter goals in the first ever Derby. He also took the first ever Derby screamer on top of fellow teammate Craig Turley.

As well as this, Heady finished with five goals in both Derby clashes that year.

Chris Lewis

In 1998 John Worsfold pulled out of the Derby late with the flu, and was replaced by Chris Lewis who snapped four goals and claimed best afield.

Scott Cummings

Scott Cummings led West Coast to their largest ever victory in round six, 2000. West Coast won by 117 points and Cummings kicked 10 in the largest-ever goal-scoring display in a Derby.

Josh Hill

Josh Hill took home four goals and a best on ground to boot after his performance in the 2015 Derby. This valiant effort also ensured the Dockers wouldn’t match the Eagles for 21 wins each.

Dean Cox

Dean Cox had matched-up in the second most Derbies at 27, coming only behind Matthew Pavlich with 34.

He claimed the Ross Glendinning Medal in 2011, where West Coast escaped with a one-point win. In this match Cox had 42 hitouts, 22 disposals and four inside 50s.

Chris Judd

Chris Judd is the only player to win the Ross Glendinning Medial in a losing side, where he had 33 disposals, 11 clearances and a goal in the Eagles’ 5-point loss.

As well as this, Brett Heady (1995) and Chris Judd (2005) are the only two Eagles players to claim sole possession of the Glendinning Medal twice in one year.

Daniel Kerr

Daniel Kerr has polled the top all-time Brownlow votes in Derby clashes, at 15, yet has never on the Glendinning-Allan Medal.

Elliot Yeo

Elliot Yeo snagged the medal in 2018, in a monstrous game which saw him claim 26 disposals, six marks, five tackles and two goals. The Eagles also continued their winning streak with a 58-point victory.

Brad Sheppard

Brad Sheppard took home the Ross Glendinning medal in 2019, with an inspiring performance of 25 disposals, seven marks and two tackles. The Eagles also won the match by 91 points.

Shannon Hurn

Shannon Hurn has played in almost half (25) of the Eagles’ Derbies, which include 14 wins and an average of 18.60 disposals and five goals.

Shannon Hurn has also racked up career-high marks against Fremantle, with 140.

Josh Kennedy

Josh Kennedy has made the top five list twice for most goals in a Derby. The first was in round 20 2016, where he scored seven.

He joined the winners circle again the following year in round six, 2017, with six goals.
