Josh Kennedy is feeling fresh and ready to go for the opening round of the AFL season after overcoming a minor calf injury during pre-season.
The dual Coleman medalist was able to progress his training load to a point where his running and change of direction is at an optimum level for match play.
"I got through Friday, which was our intra-club but it was more of a bigger training session, I got through the volume and the speed, all the stuff sports science has to tick off and I recovered really well so I am good to play round one which is great," Kennedy told 6PR's Gareth Parker.
The 33-year-old is entering his 16th AFL season, which includes 238 games for West Coast in a glittering career, but still feels the same exhilaration in the build up to the start of the season.
"I suppose this year has had some uncertainty with Covid still around, so it has been a bit different but when you know round one is here and the season is underway it is a good feeling, really looking forward to it," he said.
Kennedy has booted 645 goals in his career and is currently 27th on the all time AFL/VFL goal kicking leaderboard.
He admits he's missed a few pre-seasons, a point made by a subtle sledge from young gun Oscar Allen earlier this week.
"I tell you what I have missed a few over the 16 but round 1 is what you have to get up for," Kennedy remarked.
He also suggested the versatility of Allen has assisted the team immensely
"His versatility is amazing for a young kid and his ability to swing back and forward whenever we need him is vital for our team," Kennedy said.
