As 2020 draws to a close, I wanted to send a quick note to round out the year that was.

It’s been a year that none of us will soon forget, no matter where we are. Words like 'unprecedented', 'social distancing' and 'lockdown' became the buzzwords of the year.

But I like to think we also found a little more humanity in 2020, with tolerance, understanding and community spirit making a strong resurgence. I hope we continue to see these behaviours grow.

Fixtures for the AFLW season were released last week and, as it stands, the AFL is expected to release details for the first six rounds of the AFL season before Christmas.

Despite there not being a finalised fixture, the vast majority of our members have reconfirmed their commitment to the club by renewing their memberships for 2021. We are grateful that members are keeping the faith and continuing to show the loyalty we experienced during 2020.

We are quietly confident that we will be able to play the full fixture of AFLW matches early in 2021, with eleven home AFL matches at Optus Stadium to follow. Irrespective, we will continue to be as flexible as we can be to make sure that both seasons proceed as planned.

For now, our staff will take a well-earned break.

Mineral Resources Park will close at 11am on Friday, December 18, with the exception of the SuperStore, which will remain open until 3pm on Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24) for your last minute shopping.

We will re-open on January 4.

On behalf of our directors, staff and players, I wish you and your loved ones a very safe and happy festive season, and New Year.

Thank you once again for your support of the West Coast Eagles, and I look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Go Eagles!
