West Cost midfield bull Elliot Yeo says he’s “on the improve” after missing Sunday’s win over Hawthorn due to a groin injury.
As reported earlier this week in the St John of God Health Care Injury Update, Yeo is facing several weeks on the sidelines with an osteitis pubis-like ailment.
But the dual John Worsfold medallist told 96FM’s Botica’s Bunch programme this morning that he upbeat about his rehabilitation prospects.
“Obviously throughout the week I wasn’t feeling that great and thought I’d give it until the last possible minute,” Yeo said regarding his late withdrawal from the Hawks game.
“It just didn’t hold up that well for me and the scans ended up showing that it was obviously something a little bit more sinister. I’m doing everything you can do to let it improve.
“I’m going good; I’m on the improve.”
In spite of being unavailable to play at present, Yeo confirmed that he would be on the team's flight bound for Queensland .
The 26-year-old’s goal was to get his body up to speed sooner rather than later so he could be available for some of the club’s remaining regular season fixtures.
“Yes, I will still be flying (with the team on Tuesday),” Yeo said.
“That’s based on the fact that things can change pretty quickly. I’m pretty positive that I will play pretty soon, but it all depends on how things go, how my rehab is tracking and how well and how quickly the groin heals.”
Yeo was also holding out hope that West Coast might get to play another fixture in Perth, though he conceded that was looking less likely by the day.
With that in mind, he encouraged the blue and gold army to rally around the Eagles for Sunday’s clash with Greater Western Sydney at Optus Stadium.
“I hoped that we could get some finals games in Perth – round 18 might be in Perth – but at this point it’s looking pretty unlikely and it’s looking like everything will probably be in Queensland,” Yeo predicted.
“(Sunday’s game versus the Giants) will be a good way to send it off if that’s the case, especially with a good win as well.”
