Dana Hooker has won West Coast’s inaugural AFLW Club Champion Award by the slimmest of margins following a thrilling count at Mineral Resources Park tonight.

The Eagles vice-captain pipped skipper Emma Swanson by a single vote to claim the prized individual honour.

Hooker trailed Swanson leading into the final round of polling but managed to leapfrog her midfield colleague after collecting six of a possible seven votes for her 31-disposal, six-tackle effort against Gold Coast in round six.

The dual AFLW all-Australian finished the count with 26 votes to Swanson’s 25.

Dynamic ruck Parris Laurie and pressure forward Ashlee Atkins tied for third in the best and fairest count with 23 votes each.

It was an extraordinary win for Hooker given the challenges she faced throughout season 2020.

The two-time AFLW Best and Fairest runner-up demonstrated every ounce of her iron will to play all six of the club’s home and away contests after incurring knocks to the head against Fremantle in round two and Greater Western Sydney in round three.

Hooker averaged a career-best 19.7 disposals in 2020 while laying close to seven tackles per game.

Swanson also had an incredible year, leading the club with esteem week-in, week-out.

She was a force to be reckoned with in the midfield, averaging 17 disposals and close to five tackles per outing.

Exciting midfielder Imahra Cameron claimed the club’s Best First Year Player Award following a brilliant maiden AFLW campaign, while Alicia Janz received the Best Club Person Award for the pivotal role she played in mentoring sidelined players while rehabilitating her own knee injury.
