West Coast will wait until Saturday to determine whether it unleashes exciting bookends Jeremy McGovern and Liam Ryan against Carlton at Optus Stadium.

McGovern has missed the Eagles past three wins due to a thumb injury, while Ryan yesterday underwent a scan to assess a hamstring complaint.

Senior coach Adam Simpson suggested the pair was likely to line up against the Blues on Sunday, but he said West Coast’s match committee would make a final call on their availability following the club’s Saturday captain’s run.

“(McGovern) got through (training today), so he’s more likely than unlikely,” Simpson told the media via video link today.

“We’ll see how he goes at captain’s run on Saturday and if he gets through that he’ll likely be right to play.

“Nothing came back on (Ryan’s) scan and he ran today. He didn’t train, but he ran.

“He got over 30km/h on his running and ticked that off. Once again, he’ll be another one who we’ll get to captain’s run and see how he’s going.

“Both of those guys had a positive day and for this time of the week we are quite buoyant, but that doesn’t mean it’s a lock.”

Simpson also suggested that onballer Jack Redden would be in the selection mix after a strong week on the training track.

The premiership midfielder missed last week’s thrilling win over Geelong after straining his quad during the Eagles’ round nine victory over Collingwood.

The club will finalise its starting 22 and four emergencies for the round 11 fixture at 4.20pm on Saturday

West Coast is preparing for an all-out battle in the wet against Carlton, who currently sit in 13th spot on the ladder with a 4-5 record.

Early forecasts predict upwards of 40mm could fall on Perth this Sunday.

“They’ve come a long way in a short period of time and what will be interesting is the weather – can we both play our styles with the conditions?” Simpson said.

“They’re pretty good around clearance and contest, it fuels a lot of what they do. Their ability to keep it in their front half and score is as good as anyone.

“They’ve had some fluctuations with momentum as all young sides do, but when they’re on they’re really, really dangerous.”
