With change comes a renewed approach. On the training track, you can see it.
The young players, possibly on the periphery of selection for a year or two, sense an opportunity. The senior players know they need to impress a new coaching group, hence the energy levels on the track are high.
Today was another significant step in the important build-up to the start of the season, with pre-season hit outs only a few weeks away, and there was some intense competitive work around some match simulation activity.

Some of those young players shone. Brad Sheppard, keen to make a mark in 2014, has continued his solid training form. Jamie Bennell, in his second year at the club, looks sharp, while Elliot Yeo, having joined West Coast from Brisbane in the trade period, continues to impress.
Then there are senior players like Shannon Hurn, Matt Rosa and Mark LeCras who had interrupted campaigns last year, which they are keen to put behind them. They are moving well and their energy is infectious.
At the top end of the spectrum, both Darren Glass and Dean Cox look in fine fettle. The veterans are setting an outstanding example for their young teammates, as they have done throughout their careers.
You can sense the players feeling like the matches are looming. They are anxious for the opportunity to shine, to convince first-year coach Adam Simpson and his match committee that they deserve to play in round one against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday, March 23.
There will be a couple of NAB Challenge matches as well, but the opportunity to push their names to the forefront has already started.
