When the West Coast Eagles took on the Brisbane Lions in round 18, not only was the match a success on the field, it was a success off the field as well. The West Coast Eagles came away with the four points, defeating the Lions by 16 goals. And the icing on the cake was the huge amount that was raised for Cancer Council WA, thanks to the generosity of West Coast members and fans, and support from Caltex Australia.

Now in its eighth year, the West Coast Eagles’ Dig Deep Day has continued to be a great success, with the 2012 campaign raising a massive $119,000 for cancer research. West Coast Eagles members and fans were this year encouraged to get behind the cause by purchasing Dig Deep wristbands from Caltex stores, the West Coast Eagles Team Store or at the ground on Dig Deep Day.

Eagles supporters got on board with Dig Deep Day in spectacular fashion, with this year’s fundraising amount the second-highest ever in Dig Deep Day history.

Adding to the fundraising efforts, the chance to toss the coin at the Dig Deep Day match was also up for grabs with fans bidding online for the once in a lifetime opportunity, with all money raised going to Cancer Council WA.
Each player’s Dig Deep guernsey, which they wore in the round 18 clash with the Lions, was also auctioned off after the match, helping to raise even more money for cancer research.

The West Coast Eagles’ Cancer Council WA ambassador Beau Waters has been blown away by the generosity of West Coast members and fans.

“We would really like to thank each and every supporter who got behind Dig Deep Day in some way,” the vice-captain said.

“Whether you purchased a wristband, bid on the coin toss opportunity, or took part in the guernsey auction, you have made a contribution to a really great cause.

“This is the club’s eighth Dig Deep Day, and it’s because of incredible fans like ours that the club can continue to aid cancer research in the way it has.

“Without generous supporters who get on board like this, it just wouldn’t be possible.

“Also, a big thank you to Caltex for supporting the Dig Deep campaign as well. Without support from organisations like Caltex, these fundraising campaigns simply wouldn't happen.”

This is the fourth year Caltex have come on board to support the Dig Deep campaign, providing their stores at locations for fans to purchase Dig Deep fundraising items. The West Coast Eagles Football Club would like to thank Caltex, its staff and its franchisees for supporting the Dig Deep campaign again for 2012.
