Andrew Strijk and Koby Stevens have thrust their hands strongly into the air should the match committee be looking at making any changes for Saturday night’s show-down with Essendon at Etihad Stadium.
They were the stand-out performers in the WAFL on Saturday and each has ensured they will be discussed by the selection panel later in the week.
After a delayed start to the season, Strijk has been improving with every match and produced his best in a game where West Perth were out-pointed by South Fremantle.
He had 19 kicks, two handballs, four marks and six tackles to be one of the leading lights for the Falcons and his versatility might have some appeal with the match committee.
Stevens has also done little wrong this season, playing against GWS in round three, then being on the receiving end of a heavy bump against East Perth and missing last week as a result. He returned to action for East Fremantle on Saturday and was close to best afield.
He amassed 26 possessions and took seven marks to help propel his team to an important victory.
Ryan Neates did his prospects of a senior debut no harm, should the match review panel’s decision to suspend small forward Ashton Hams for two games stand. Neates kicked three goals in a lively performance for Claremont, continuing a strong run of form.
Tiger teammates Tom Swift and Lewis Stevenson also offered solid performances. Stevenson, impeccably skilled, had 17 touches deep in defence, while Swift again accumulated the ball with 25 disposals and four marks.
Gerrick Weedon was used at both ends of the ground and picked up 15 disposals, while developing forward Jeremy McGovern kicked a goal and had 10 possessions, also spending some time in the ruck.
Simon Tunbridge continues to develop his defensive qualities with Perth, while Callum Papertalk (East Fremantle) and Anton Hamp (Claremont) played in the reserves for their respective clubs. Hamp was close to his team’s best with 19 possessions, nine marks and three goals.
