When the West Coast Eagles take on the Brisbane Lions at Patersons Stadium on Sunday, July 29, the club will be dedicating the match to digging deep for Cancer Council WA.

The round 18 clash is the West Coast Eagles’ official Dig Deep Day, where the team is urging fans to support them in the fight against cancer.

And the team’s dedication to digging deep has spread beyond the football field, with vice-captain Beau Waters last week making a special visit to patients at the Cancer Council WA’s Milroy Lodge.

“Milroy Lodge is an accommodation facility in Perth for country cancer patients and their carers,” Waters said.

“For regional patients who have to travel for Perth for treatment, the Cancer Council WA offers this accommodation for the patients and any friends or family members who have to make the journey with them.”

Waters, who is the West Coast Eagles’ Cancer Council WA ambassador, paid a visit to patients who are currently taking part in a research program which has been funded by the club’s 2011 Dig Deep campaign.

“It’s great to come down here and actually see the results of the club’s fundraising.

“To simply have a dollar value on what we raise is obviously fantastic, but we don’t actually see the end result. So to physically see the research program taking place and the benefits it’s clearly delivering for people living with cancer really puts things in to perspective and makes you realise just how important the club’s fundraising efforts are.

“This year the club is selling Dig Deep wristbands to fundraise for Cancer Council WA.

“Wristbands are available until the end of July at Caltex stores, the West Coast Eagles Team Store, as well as around the ground on Dig Deep Day. All proceeds will go straight to Cancer Council WA to help fund cancer research.

Fans can also buy wristbands online - click here to buy your wristbands now.

“As a bit of a bonus for our fans as well, with every wristband purchase, Caltex will put you in to the draw to win one of six signed framed Eagles guernseys,” Waters added.

"You just have to write your name and contact details on the back of your Caltex receipt, and Caltex will put in the draw to win one the guernseys."

The West Coast Eagles are also auctioning off the chance to meet captain Darren Glass and toss the coin on Dig Deep Day. All money raised from the online auction will go straight to Cancer Council WA. To bid on this once in a lifetime opportunity, click here.
