West Coast midfielder Dom Sheed is likely to feature in selection discussions this week after showing his class in the WAFL on Friday night.
Unfortunately Sheed’s 36-disposal effort wasn’t enough to get East Perth over the line against Claremont, as the Royals slumped to an 11.6 (69) to 16.9 (105) loss at Leederville Oval.
The 21-year-old, who was omitted from West Coast’s round three squad after a quiet night against St Kilda, amassed 15 contested possessions, eight inside 50 entries, eight effective tackles and one goal under duress against the in-form Tigers.
East Perth had periods of dominance during the contest and led Claremont by five points at quarter time thanks to three late goals before the first change of ends.
But they were undone by zero-goals-to-six second term, which helped the Tigers seize the game’s momentum and run away on the scoreboard.
The Royals toiled away in the second half and won the final quarter, but they couldn’t manage to reel in the unbeaten Claremont outfit.
Luke Partington amassed 32 disposals, Kurt Mutimer got his hands on the ball 23 times and Malcolm Karpany accumulated 22 touches.
East Perth trialled defender Francis Watson up forward and the crafty Category B rookie booted his first WAFL goal in the second minute of the contest.
He also collected 24 possessions, three marks and seven effective tackles for the match.
Experienced defenders Eric Mackenzie and Will Schofield gathered the Burley on 20 and 19 occasions respectively. Mackenzie also reeled in a game-high 12 marks.
Half back Tom Gorter collected 18 possessions, seven of which were contested, and Fraser McInnes worked hard for his 16 disposals, two marks and four tackles.
Daniel Venables booted two goals to go with his 13 touches, Paddy Brophy collected 17 possessions and Tom Lamb finished the evening with seven disposals.
