The stamp of a class player is evident when the chips are down and West Coast Eagles captain Luke Shuey did all he could to lift his team in last night’s disappointing loss to Gold Coast.
Shuey copped a physical buffeting from the Suns, including an accidental head knock in the last term, as he collected 18 kicks, seven hand balls and three marks to be his team’s best player.

With those touches he sent the ball inside the forward 50 metre arc seven times, gained 526 metres for his team and was involved in eight scoring passages – including a goal of his own.
He was busy around the clearances and worked hard in traffic.
With the game beyond reach he went to the bench and sat out the last few minutes after that final term head clash.
He will be sore today – as will all of the players after their first game in three months – but he will be there as his team strives to rebound against Brisbane at the Gabba next week.
