The West Coast Eagles tonight secured a mix of players, both in terms of experience and positions, at the AFL National Draft on the Gold Coast.

The Eagles did not enter the selection fray until pick 45 when it secured Perth forward Brant Colledge and backed that up with South Fremantle midfielder Adam Carter before rounding off a great night for the club by selecting West Perth midfielder Mark Hutchings.

Colledge is capable of playing as a third tall option deep in attack or higher up the ground, while Carter, the son of former Perth on-baller Lindsay Carter, can play through the middle or in defence, and Hutchings, who had previously been listed by St Kilda, comes off a terrific season for the Falcons.

Hutchings, originally from East Perth, was runner-up in the Sandover Medal.

“We are really pleased with the spread of talent we were able to select tonight,” National Recruiting Manager Rohan O’Brien said.

“Brant Colledge is an athletic tall, Adam Carter is a clever midfielder, who can also play as a small defender, and Mark Hutchings is an inside midfielder.

“We were delighted that Brant was still available for our first selectione. He has excellent endurance and is good overhead.

“Adam and Brant both played in the WA 18s team this year and we are delighted to give them an opportunity. We also thought that Mark deserved another opportunities after two outstanding seasons in the WAFL after returning from St Kilda.”
